Overview

Define what you need to understand.

A load test or monitoring assignment starts with defining what needs to be understood about a structure's response or condition. The structure, available records, project requirements and access constraints all shape the investigation.

SRS discusses static and dynamic bridge load testing alongside structural health monitoring requirements. Measurement arrangements, test coordination, monitoring duration and the reporting scope are agreed for the assignment; continuous remote monitoring is not assumed.

Scope to discuss

Tests and investigations.

Loading, access and operational coordination require a project-specific plan. Monitoring provides information for assessment; it does not by itself guarantee that a structure is safe or prevent deterioration.

Bridge load testing

  • Static load testing
  • Dynamic load testing

Instrumentation options

  • Dial gauges
  • Linear variable differential transformers (LVDTs)
  • Strain gauges
  • Inclinometers
  • Accelerometers

Instrumentation is selected to suit the required measurements and reporting scope.

Structural monitoring

  • Structural health monitoring

Sensor arrangements, measurement intervals, monitoring duration, data review and follow-up responsibilities are agreed as part of the scope.

Where it is used

Put the investigation in context.

  • Bridge load-response investigations
  • Project-defined structural monitoring requirements
  • Condition-related investigations for bridges, buildings and dams
  • Measurement information for the responsible structural consultant's review

Questions before you enquire

A little more clarity.

These answers are a starting point. The scope of an assignment is agreed around your project.

How are static and dynamic load-testing scopes selected?

The testing objective, structure, available records and project requirements guide the scope. The loading and measurement plan is discussed with the project team before the assignment is confirmed.

Will every instrument listed be used?

Instrument types and locations are selected around the measurements needed for the agreed investigation. These are instrumentation options; the equipment schedule is agreed for each assignment.

Does monitoring mean a permanent, continuously watched system?

Not necessarily. A monitoring assignment can have different durations, measurement intervals and review arrangements. Continuous remote monitoring should not be assumed unless it is specifically confirmed in the scope.

Who coordinates traffic and operational access?

The necessary access, traffic or operational arrangements and each party's responsibilities need to be agreed with the project team before site work. These are part of planning the assignment, not automatic inclusions.

Your site. Your requirements.

Let’s discuss the scope for your project.

We discuss assignments across Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat.

Site access, scheduling, method suitability and availability are confirmed for the agreed work.
